New York part lV - Lumivalkea perjantai / Snowy friday 20.3.2015

Pahottelut kun ootte joutuneet odottelemaan! Oon tosissaan ollut ihan älyttömän kipeä, ja voimia ei ole ollut muuhun kun sängynpohjalla makaamiseen. Nyt onneksi voin jo paremmin. :-)
So sorry you have had to wait for the new york posts, but I've been really really sick and the only thing I've been able to do is sleeping. Luckily I'm already feeling better. :-)

Nukuin torstain ja perjantain välisen yön tosi huonosti, ja perjantaina aamulla voin edelleen pahoin. Totesin, että tää onkin sitten varmana jotakin muuta, eikä mitään matkapahoinvointia (olo edelleen heikko). Sain pikkasen puuroa ja puol lasia omenamehua aamiaisella alas, ja totesin että olo on tarpeeksi hyvä lähteä kiertelemään! Tiesin etukäteen, että säätiedotteessa oltiin luvattu lunta taivaalta, joten pukeuduin (melkein) sen mukaan. Huivi oli eilisen pahoinvointireissun jäljiltä pesussa, joten tuulitakki leukaan asti vedettynä sai kelvata. Päässä oli ehkä vähän koomisesti (lumisateeseen nähden) lippis, mutta se toimi hyvin näkösuojana vaakalumisateessa.

I slept really badly between thursday and friday night and when I woke up I still felt nauseous. I wondered myself that this must be something more than just travel sickness.. I did managed to eat some porridge and tea, and felt good enough to go wander around manhattan. I knew that the forecast had promised snow, so I dressed (almost) for it. I didn't have my scarf because of my very nauseous trip to nyc, so I had to manage with my windproof jacket. I did wear a cap which was a bit funny looking (it was winter!) but it was a very helpful when it was snowing right on my face. 

Central Park

Lähdin perjantaina aamulla kävelemään Central Parkiin. Oli aika karun näköstä, kun ei oo lehtiä puissa ja oli aika harmaa sää, mut hei, New York, joten ihan uskomatonta silti. Oli kyllä ihan tosi tosi kylmä, mt kuljeskelin vaan suu auki hämmenyksestä ympäriinsä, että aika pian kylmyyskin unohtu. Kävelin vahingossa melkein koko puiston läpi, enkä edes tajunnu miten kauas kävelin ja päädyin itseasiassa ihan sattumalta Metropolitan Museum of Art :in luo.

I went to walk around Central Park. It was quite grey weather, and looked pretty boring, cause there were no leaves on trees (well of course not..) but oh well, it was New York, so amazing anyway! It was super cold, but I was walking around with my mouth open admiring the view, so I pretty soon forgot the cold. I accidentally walked almost through the whole park and ended up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and didn't even realize how far I had walked!

 Näin myös tuoreen avioparin ottamasssa hääkuvia central parkissa. Tirautin muutaman kyyneleenkin yksikseni, kun alkoi vähän sataa lunta ja pariskunta näytti niin onnelliselta ja olla nyt hääparina New Yorkin central parkissa ja kaikki näytti niin täydelliseltä. Romantikko täällä hei. 

 I also saw a couple taking their wedding picture at central park. I cried a little. They were so cute and looked so happy! And it started also snowing a little more and the moment just seemed so perfect. 

 ...ja koska halusin sielläkin käydä, menin sitten sinne samalla! Tykkäsin erityisesti maalaustaiteesta. Museo oli tosi hieno, ja pelkästään sen aulassa tuli jo ihan wow fiilis. En hirveesti kerennyt nauttimaan, koska rupesin voimaan (jälleen) tosi huonosti, joten museo sai jäädä, ja lähdin vaakasuorassa lumisateessa metsästämään reittiä takas hotellille. Jos oisin ollu fiksu, oisin tietty ottanut taksin. Mut en tajunnu miten kaukana olin, joten jouduin kysymään neuvoa varmaan viis kertaa, ja itsepintasesti rämmin sitten siellä ihan ikuisuuden, kunnes lopulta (luojan kiitos!) pääsin hotellille. Ja voin tosi pahoin.

… and because I wanted to go there I decided to visit the museum right away! I especially liked the painted art. The museum itself was gorgeous and in the lobby I already got the wow-feeling. I didn't get to enjoy much, because I started feeling terribly nauseous again, so I had to leave the museum behind and start to wander back to the hotel in a snowfall. If I had been smart, I would've took a taxi, but well, I didn't, so I had to ask for advice for like 5 times and I didn't realize how far I was, so it took ages before I found myself back to the hotel. And felt super bad. 

The Metropolitan Opera

Illalla oli vuorossa Verdin Ernani Metropolitan Oopperassa. Onneksi päästiin sinne kun olin tarpeeksi levännyt, mutta kahteen otteeseen jouduttiin miettimään koska olin niin huonovointinen. Loppu hyvin kaikki hyvin kuitenkin. Ernani ei ehkä ollut Verdiä parhaimmillaan, mutta ooppera oli mahtipontinen ja orkesteri soitti aivan saumattomasti yhteen. Lavasteet olivat valtavan kokoisia (enkä liiottele) ja hämmästelin vain, miten ne saatiin tuotua koko lavalle. Oopperassa oli tosin kaksi hassua noin 5 minuutin paussia, minkä ainaka lavasteet vaihdettiin verhojen takana, ja orkesterikin otti lomaa. Kuitenkin, nautin musiikista älyttömästi ja kokemus oli tosi hieno.

Oopperassa oli ihania vanhoja pariskuntia hienosti pukeutuneita viettämässä yhteistä iltaa, ja  ne oli niin ihania! Tolleen mäki haluun viettää vanhoja päiviä. Muutenkin ooppera oli todella täynnä, mutta oopperatalon ison koon vuoksi sitä ei jotenkin tajunnut ennen kuin näki kaikki penkit varattuina! Ja tuli tuolla seisoskellessa mieleenikin, että kyllä meillä on hirmu kaunis oopperatalo, josta näkyy suoraan töölönlahdelle. 

In the evening we had tickets to see the Verdi's Ernani to the Metropolitan Opera. Luckily I was feeling okay enough so we could actually go! We had to really think twice because I was feeling so nauseous. Well we got to go, happy ending. Ernani was not the best Verdi, but the orchestra was amazing, and played really well together. The music was beautiful and the opera was really flamboyant. The props were HUGE (and i'm not kidding) and I was just wondering all the time how did they even got them on the stage. There were though few little weird pauses when the orchestra was not playing and they were changing the props behind the curtains and people were talking. But I enjoyed the music a lot and the experience was wonderful. 
 There were old couples in the opera dressed nicely and they were so cute spending their night together at the opera house.. I want to be like that when I'm old! The opera was very fully booked, but as the opera house was very big, I didn't really realize it until I saw all the seats reserved. When I was standing there looking around I found myself wondering that actually we have a really beautiful opera house here in Finland, from where you can see Töölönlahti. And it's beautiful.
